How far is
too far? What’s my “design limit?” How will I decide when to say, “Yes, I
accept the project” or “No, I cannot accept the project”?
I never
thought about this until my instructor introduced the topic as a discussion question:
what won’t I design?
I enrolled in
school to study interior design with a goal to one day influence the use of
interior spaces. I never thought about certain spaces being “off limits.”

Will
I or won’t I? Will I one day make professional decisions based on my personal
beliefs? Will designing for a business, whose practices I don’t believe in,
identify me as a hypocrite? Will my professional decisions impact my personal
convictions? Are the two related at all?
My
professional decisions are just business…
Right?
It is interesting that as students we tend to over look the possibility of designing somewhere we do not feel comfortable designing. Can our beliefs be mixed with business opportunities? It is definitely a test of our morality.
